Saving the Rainbow

I decided I could not throw away all the work I did on the Rainbow Fail. I got many suggestions on what to do with it, hang it as art, quilt it anyway, starch the heck out of it, but I chose to chop it up into 4.5 'charm squares. I found the flattest parts and hacked away with my 4.5" ruler (so glad I own that). I got about 30 squares and a few 1.5" strips and I assembled about 5 more scrappy blocks with the left over angle cut fabric.

This is my first ever truly scrappy project and if I ignore the Rainbow Fail that led to it, I think it is shaping up pretty nicely.
Right now it is a bit narrow but I have an idea that will make it into a throw size quilt. I am going to abandon it for the week so I can do the week 3 class projects.

I now know where I went wrong in Rainbow Road, I made the angles at the beginning far too steep and it made the strips excessively wavy. I may have wasted a bit of fabric but I think this whole Rainbow Fail was a great learning experience.

  2. Good save! And you're so right - we learn a lot from the fails. Even more sometimes than from the successes. Looks pretty neat against that black!

  3. Yep. I like it against the black. Could totally be an art piece.

  5. It looks awesome! So glad you saved all that fabric and all that piecing work. Mine is still in progress, currently in the middle of ironing seams stage (I worked out that it's about 180 pieces as I made it a bit larger for my desk). Anyway, it has been abandoned as I have a swap due this weekend. Oh the pressure, I'm falling so behind on Curves Camp! :-(

    1. I am so behind too. I havehn't even looked at the precise curves. I have 3 hrs tomorrow to dig in, that is unless my husband Skypes, then I will get nothing done.

  6. Amanda - I think it looks great! Sorry to ask this again in a comment but what were the circular knitting needles you recommended? Wasn't able to scroll back quickly enough in the chat to get it written down! Thanks so much - Mary

    1. Thanks MAry. The needles are from Knitpicks, I have the rainbow wood interchangables. I will need to buy a few extra tips as the set isn't complete and if I want really small or really large needles I will have to buy the fixed ones. All I can say is I have tried so many needles and I may even love these more than the spendy addi turbos.

My Ravelry name is suburbanplant if you want to add me.
